Vue on 30a is gone. As of September 2026, Santa Rosa Golf & Beach Club has permanently closed the Gulf-front restaurant that started out in 1971 as the "Beach Club." The closure also changes how you plan a special dinner in Santa Rosa Beach. Of the public restaurants along this stretch of 30A where you can see the Gulf from your table, only one confirmed spot still lets you book ahead. You walk into the rest.
For an anniversary, a parents' visit or a rehearsal-weekend dinner, the planning moves from the reservation app to timing.
What closed, and why it isn't coming back as it was
The club laid out the reasons in a letter to guests and members. During routine maintenance, staff found conditions serious enough to bring in outside professionals. Their assessment found water intrusion and related indoor air quality problems in parts of the building. The letter says the problems could be fixed. The board decided against that because repairs would take "a significant financial investment and an extended timeline" for a building already slated for replacement under the club's long-range beachfront master plan.
Get The Coast reported the closure on September 14 and printed a statement from Steve O'Brien, president of the Santa Rosa Golf & Beach Club Board of Directors:
"Vue has been so much more than a restaurant. It has been part of the fabric of this Club and this community for generations. We are incredibly grateful for everything Vue has meant to our members, our employees and the 30A community."
Two days later, the Northwest Florida Daily News ran its own brief on the closure. Neither the club's notice nor the news coverage gives a design, construction schedule or opening date for a replacement building. Any timeline you hear around town is unconfirmed.
Vue won "Best Fine Dining" from Visit South Walton and was named a "Most Booked" restaurant on OpenTable. Most of the public Gulf-view tables still open in the 32459 area don't take reservations at all.
The Gulf-view tables still open, by how you get a seat
| Restaurant | Where | Where the view is | Who can dine | Reservations |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bud & Alley's | 2236 E. County Road 30-A, Seaside | Roof deck over the Gulf, plus indoor dining | Public | Yes, booked online |
| Fish Out of Water | WaterColor Inn, 34 Goldenrod Circle | Indoor and outdoor Gulf-front dining | Public | No, first-come, first-served |
| Shunk Gulley Oyster Bar | 1875 S. Hwy 393, Gulf Place | Second-floor panoramic bar | Public | No |
| CHIRINGO | 63 Hotz Ave., Grayton Beach | Upstairs seating | Public | No, first-come, first-served |
| WaterColor Grill | WaterColor Beach Club, 24 Goldenrod Circle | Gulf and pool views | WaterColor residents and eligible guests only | Not published |
Bud & Alley's is the only public Gulf-view option in that table you can lock in before you leave the house.
Bud & Alley's carries the booked dinner now
Bud & Alley's has served Seaside since 1986, and its logo this year marks 40 years. Its "Make a Reservation" section recommends booking in advance, "especially for weekend evenings and our coveted sunset seating." With Vue closed, more Santa Rosa Beach birthday and anniversary bookings are likely to land on that same reservation book. Booking earlier than you used to makes sense.
Two details matter for a celebration. The roof deck is the seat with the Gulf directly below it. It runs on seasonal hours, and the restaurant asks guests to call for the current schedule at 850.231.5900. In October and November, call before you promise anyone a rooftop sunset.
The indoor dining room still overlooks the Gulf. On a windy or cool evening, a reserved indoor table can serve you better than a rooftop seat you can't guarantee.
Fish Out of Water's hours make an early arrival work
Fish Out of Water at WaterColor Inn is the closest thing on this stretch to the room Vue left behind. It's a Gulf-front restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating, open to the public. 30A.com reported in its October 2026 WaterColor guide that the kitchen now runs separate lunch and dinner menus under Director of Culinary Chef Louis Martorano.
The restaurant states plainly that it does not accept reservations: "Dine-in service is available on a first-come, first-served basis." Its posted schedule is the useful part:
- Lunch, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., daily
- Happy hour, 2 to 4 p.m.
- Dinner, 2 to 10 p.m.
- Weekend brunch, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., seasonal
Dinner service starts at 2 p.m., so a walk-in dinner here doesn't have to start at prime time. A group that arrives in the late afternoon can take a Gulf-front table at a slower hour and stay through the evening. The restaurant also links to a separate seasonal-hours page, so check that before a fall weekend.
Next door, WaterColor Grill at 24 Goldenrod Circle looks out on the Gulf and the pool. It's a Beach Club amenity, though, limited to WaterColor residents and eligible guests, and anyone five or older needs a wristband. If you don't have Beach Club access, Fish Out of Water is the WaterColor table you can actually get.
Shunk Gulley and CHIRINGO are walk-ins, too
Shunk Gulley Oyster Bar sits at 1875 S. Hwy 393 in Gulf Place. Its two-level building has a sunlit patio on the ground floor and panoramic views upstairs. Its contact page says it in capital letters: "WE DO NOT TAKE RESERVATIONS." In 30A.com's 2026 Hot Spot awards, Shunk Gulley won outdoor dining and placed second in casual dining. It's a casual seafood dinner with a view, not a white-tablecloth anniversary. For many celebrations that's enough, as long as everyone knows to wait for the upstairs bar.
CHIRINGO in Grayton Beach, at 63 Hotz Ave., is the most relaxed of the group. A 2022 30A.com profile noted Gulf views from the upstairs seating. It also seats first-come, first-served and takes no reservations. The posted cutoffs matter here. CHIRINGO lists its last seating at 8:45 p.m. and stops taking kitchen orders at 9 p.m. Doors open at 9 a.m. Thursday through Sunday and at 11:30 a.m. Monday through Wednesday. Arrive late after a long sunset walk and you can miss dinner entirely.
Planning a Gulf-view celebration dinner this fall
Here's how to plan around the reservation gap Vue leaves:
- Start with Bud & Alley's if the date is fixed. Book through the restaurant's online reservations as early as you can for a weekend evening. Call to confirm the roof deck is open on your date.
- Use Fish Out of Water's 2 p.m. dinner start if your timing is flexible. An early arrival at a walk-in restaurant is the closest thing on this list to a reservation.
- Use Shunk Gulley or CHIRINGO for a casual night. Both have upstairs Gulf views and neither books ahead, so pad your evening for a wait.
- Check every restaurant's current hours. Bud & Alley's roof deck and Fish Out of Water's brunch both run on seasonal schedules, and fall is when those schedules change.
If your group includes WaterColor Beach Club members, WaterColor Grill is one more option. It isn't available to the general public.
For the club itself, the only confirmed fact is that Vue's building is slated for replacement under a long-range beachfront master plan with no published timeline.
